Meet Faith and Favor adopted by Dr. Florence

Dr. Florence Kanyunyuzi has dedicated her medical expertise and compassion to helping vulnerable children and families. One heartwarming story stands out as an example of her commitment.

On a Thursday evening during her time as an intern doctor in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Dr. Florence received twin baby girls, just three days old. Their young father, only 20 years old, had brought them to the hospital because their 17-year-old mother, critically ill, was unable to breastfeed. These twins, Faith and Favor, had been delivered through an emergency C-section, and twin pregnancy was an unexpected discovery for the young couple, who were struggling financially.

Unfortunately, the mother succumbed to puerperal sepsis five days after the surgery, leaving behind two newborn orphans and a father who was emotionally and financially overwhelmed. Dr. Florence, moved by their plight, followed up with the father, Mr. Erick, three weeks later and found that he had no family support. Struggling between working to provide for his children and caring for them, Mr. Erick was in despair. The babies were crying excessively, had skin pustules, and were malnourished, which led Dr. Florence to advise him to bring them back to the hospital.

The babies had lost weight, were not getting proper nutrition, and their father was exhausted, facing sleepless nights and immense financial burdens. Seeing that he could not continue to care for them, he expressed a willingness to give them up for adoption. Dr. Florence, through legal procedures, adopted the twins and has been raising them with love and care.

Today, these once fragile newborns are thriving, healthy nine-month-old baby girls, thanks to the dedication and kindness of Dr.Florence. Her work as our Volunteer Coordinator is a reflection of the compassion and commitment that drives the Doksa Empowerment Outreach Foundation.
